Did you know that some fishermen and fish farmers in Scotland shoot seals because they eat fish? A seal swimming close to a fish farm, in a salmon river or near coastal nets is seen as a competitor for fish. The current law does not protect seals, it allows the shooting of seals all year round, even during breeding seasons which can mean that dependent pups could be left to starve to death.
Under the new Marine (Scotland) Bill we have the opportunity for change. To find out more about how can you help protect seals in Scotland please visit http://www.lookoutforseals.org and watch the short film, Bonnie’s Tale, narrated by Richard Briers – a voice we have grown to love over the past few decades.
The more people that watch the film and sign our online pledge, the greater the chance that the Scottish Government will better protect these beautiful and defenceless creatures.
