I don't know if anybody was watching Channel 4's "The Big Food Fight - Hugh's Chicken Run" and what you thought of it? I found bits of it really difficult to watch and I hadn't understood completely how they lived - I knew to a degree but watching that programme really highlighted how bad it was. I thought the programme was very well done to give us all an idea of what goes on - I feel that Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall deserves a pat on the back for exposing it. I wonder how many vegetarians will come of it?!!!! |

I watched it all with my wife who is not vegetarian and I think it opened her eyes a lot - The Jamie Oliver programme even more so. The gassing of the baby chicks was particularly hard to take.
I have to say these programmes have made a difference to her eating habits - I'll have to make sure it lasts |

Hugh did a fantastic job. It has done so well that our local supermarket ran out completely of free range chickens!!!
Also, Jamies programme did so well that the co-op in my local area has now stopped selling any eggs that aren't free range!

The supermarkets are phasing out battery hen meat and eggs - some faster than others. Bring it on, I say. Not a moment too soon. |
